Celebrating Switzer Licorice & Other St. Louis Treats June 18th

Kickoff Father's Day weekend on Friday, June 18th, 5-9 p.m. at Robin's Nest on the Katy Trail with a special event celebrating sweet treats made in St. Louis.

Patrick Murphy, a former Nine PBS producer, will be signing copies of his new book "Candy Men: The Story of Switzer's Licorice". There was a time when blocks along the St. Louis Riverfront were filled with the scent of licorice. Murphy tells the story of how the Murphy and Switzer families met, married and made candies in St. Louis for almost a century. In addition to the book signing, the event will feature live music from Brian Clarke, formerly of the "St. Louis Browns"; plus St. Louis style BBQ featuring Maull's BBQ Sauce; and other St. Louis treats, including Switzer Licorice, Ted Drew's Ice Cream, Fitz Soda, St. Louis Style Gooey Butter Cake, Gus's Pretzels, Dad's Cookies, Old Vienna Potato Chips, Serendipity Licorice Ice Cream, and a Pop-up "Old Time Candy" Counter. Katy Bike Rental will be offering free bike rentals from 5 - 8 p.m. so bring dad and enjoy an evening of good old-fashioned St. Louis fun.

You are also invited to live stream the PBS documentary about the Switzer Licorice story, which has received excellent reviews:
