Ribbon Cutting at Defiance Ridge

On Saturday, July 21, 2018, Defiance Ridge Vineyards held a Ribbon Cutting on their new Wine Production Facility.

Since purchasing the property (formerly Wine Country Gardens) last fall, the Gillentine family (Chuck, Cindy, and Trevor) have envisioned turning it into a working winery with onsite vineyards, grape production and winemaking. That vision is now a reality.

With the new facility, the winery has the ability to crush, ferment and age wine from harvest through bottling.  Wine production will start onsite right after Labor Day when they harvest Vignoles, Chambourcin and Norton. Chuck Gillentine said they expect to produce 3000 gallons (around 15,000 bottles) in 2018. Some of the wine will be produced from grapes grown on site. Additional grapes will be purchased from other Missouri vineyards. Gillentine said they are looking forward to a successful harvest. He credited winemaker and vineyard manager, Tom Murphy, for his hand in both tending the vineyards and completing the wine production facility. Murphy is a well-known vintner, with nearly 25 years experience in the industry.

Many people attended the ribbon cutting and wine and cheese reception. Wine club members who were present picked up their first quarterly 4-bottle shipment and received a complimentary logo t-shirt or hat. The festivities concluded with dinner and the movie “Somm”.

Defiance Ridge Vineyards is located at 2711 S. Hwy. 94, at the entrance to Defiance. Hours are 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday through Thursday, and 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Friday. The venue includes a full service restaurant featuring farm to market cuisine, wine tasting and sales, and a large event space with indoor and outdoor seating.
