For the third year in a row, the New Melle Chamber decided to recognize an individual member who has gone above and beyond in serving both the Chamber of Commerce and the community at large. This year, that person was Kyle Shell. He was surprised with this award at the NMCC Scholarship Banquet, May 18.
Kyle moved to this community when he was 11 years old. Of course, it wasn’t long before he was playing ball at New Melle Sports and Rec, and then umpiring and working the concession stand. Throughout his high school and college years he gradually took on more and more responsibilities at NMSR, including concessions manager, tournament director, facilities director, volunteer coordinator, and festival chairperson.
Kyle’s interest in community involvement manifested itself in his early teens. He started helping out at the New Melle Fire Department. He got his own scanner and started showing up at incident scenes to direct traffic, clean up or help in any way. Kyle became an official Volunteer Firefighter in 2008. From those very early years to this day, he is known as someone who is, “Always willing to lend a helping hand.”
Kyle is a passionate advocate for the New Melle Community and a great public relations liaison between organizations within the community and beyond. It was his creative thinking and perseverance that started the ever-popular “Family Night” at the annual New Melle Festival.
His interest in business and community blossomed while attending Francis Howell High School, where he was “Mr. FBLA” (Future Business Leaders of America).” That experience really sowed the seeds of what was to come.
While earning his Master's Degree at the University of Central Missouri, he was the student representative on the UCM Board of Governors.
It was also during his college years that Kyle became involved with the New Melle Chamber of Commerce. Again, always being that person who is willing to help out, he served as President, President-Elect, Scholarship Chair, and Board member. He co-chairs the annual golf tournament and was instrumental in creating the joint golf tournament between New Melle Sports and Rec and the chamber. Kyle emcees the Annual Easter Egg Hunt, helps with the Spring Fling fundraiser, the New Melle Country Christmas, the New Melle Plein Air painting day and more. In addition, he currently serves as:
- Director on the New Melle Fire Protection District Board of Directors
- Director on the New Melle Sports and Rec Board of Directors
- Chairman of the CREC Operation Roundup Board of Directors
- Commissioner for District #2 on the St Charles County Planning and Zoning Commission
He continues to consistently support many fundraising activities and organizations throughout the community. If it’s going on in New Melle, he’s probably there—promoting it, supporting it, attending it, and/or helping with set up or clean up and more!
The New Melle Chamber of Commerce is proud to recognize Kyle Shell for his service and dedication to our organization and the community in the past, and wish him continued success in the years to come. Congratulations Kyle!
